Airline travel is always such a hassle. You need to pack and remember a lot of things: your ID, phone, credit cards, boarding passes… just to name a few. The good news is: with a digital boarding pass in your Apple or Google Pay Wallet, you can always have your airline tickets at hand. No more printing, fumbling through your bag, pinching and zooming a PDF. One less thing to worry about when you’re about to take a flight.
So, how to add a boarding pass to Apple and GPay Wallet? Let’s dive in!
What is a boarding pass
A boarding pass is a document that gives you a permission to go through the security at the airport and board the airplane for a particular flight.
Know your boarding pass
There are few types of boarding passes you can see at the airport so let’s break it down so that you understand how they work.
1. Printable boarding pass
The most retro way to travel - a paper boarding pass. After checking in, you’ll receive a PDF that will be sent to your email address. Boarding passes must be printed out in A4 format.
There’s a lot of cons though: you need a printer, it’s not eco-friendly, and it’s definitely not convenient to carry around.
2. Mobile boarding pass in QR code format
A type of PDF with the QR code. You don’t need to print this out, you simply open it from the email when boarding. You should save it to a File Manager or take a screenshot in case there’s no Internet connection.
Cons: searching for the PDF in your inbox or phone, waiting for the file to download, pinching and zooming the document while queues are forming behind you.
3. Passbook or PassWallet
You can add your boarding pass to Apple Wallet or GPay Wallet. When you use a passbook, your boarding pass is available directly on your phone’s screen. No digging through your emails or printing paper each time you take a flight. For frequent flyers, this way is the only way!
How to add flight to wallet
You can add your flight to Wallet through the airline’s app or through GetPassbook. We recommend the second solution as you won’t have to download tons of airline apps each time you need to get a boarding pass.
So whether you’re flying with Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Ryanair or any other airline, GetPassbook will work in any case.
GetPassbook is a free tool that converts any boarding pass into a mobile pass for Apple or Gpay Wallet.
Getting a boarding pass on the phone with GetPassbook is very simple. Once you have checked in, your airline sends a boarding pass to your email. You then convert your PDF to a mobile boarding pass for Apple Wallet or GPay Wallet.
There are two ways to add your flight to Wallet with GetPassbook: either download GetPassbook app for iOS or Android and upload your boarding pass there, or drop your boarding pass on the GetPassbook website.
It’s really that simple:
- Check in
- Upload the PDF or image of your boarding pass to GetPassbook
- Tap “Add to Wallet”
How to use mobile boarding pass
For frequent flyers, speed and convenience is crucial. With a boarding pass in your Wallet, you can open the passbook right away. No login, no searching, no downloading required.
Once you save your airline ticket in the Wallet, a notification about your boarding pass will appear automatically when you arrive at the airport on the day of your flight. Tap on your home screen, and it will open the passbook right away. You don’t have to adjust the brightness as the Wallet app will do it for you. Also, your Passbook will update when any flight changes occur.
If there’s no notification, you can always access your mobile boarding pass by opening the Wallet app (by tapping the Wallet icon, using Search, or double clicking the Side Button)
Your Wallet might contain other documents such as credit cards so you’ll have to scroll to find your ticket.
